How to insert Em Dash, En Dash in word document with Writer 2013

A dash is a punctuation mark that is similar to hyphen or minus sign, but differs from them in length and function. The most commonly used dashes are em dash ( — )  and en dash ( – ). In Kingsoft Writer, these two marks can be inserted easily through inserting symbols. See the following steps to insert these two symbols.

Insert Em Dash and En Dash

Step 1 Under Classic Skin, go to Insert > Symbol. Under 2013 style interfaces, go to Insert > Symbol > More Symbols.

Step 2 In the prompt dialog, select Special Characters, and you will find Em Dash and En Dash in the list. Double-click to insert them to the document, or press Insert. Each time you press Insert, a new dash is inserted. Then press Close.

Add Em Dash and En Dash to Custom Symbols

If you use em dash and en dash frequently, you can add them to the custom symbols list and set shortcuts.

Step 1 Select Em Dash and press Insert to Custom Symbols, same with En Dash.

Step 2 Go to Custom Symbols tab, and do three things as follows:

1. Select Em Dash in the custom symbols list.

2. Move cursor to Shortcut keys and set your shortcut, where "None" is displayed as default value. For example, press Ctrl + Alt + 1, and this shortcut will be shown in the Shortcut keys area.

3. Click on Specify Shortcut keys to apply it to the selected symbol. Same with en dash and other custom symbols.

Press Close to finish settings. Now you can use your own shortcuts to insert symbols like em dash and en dash!
