How to Apply Border and Shading to Text in Writer 2013

In addition to adding a border to the pages, you can also add borders and shading to the text and paragraphs in Writer 2013 document.

Add borders to text

To add a border to text, follow the steps below:

Step 1 Select the text to which you want to add the border.

Step 2 Open the Page Layout tab, click the Page Borders icon, and open the Borders and Shading dialogue box. Select the Borders tab as shown below:

Step 3 In the Settings section, select one of the varieties of the border, such as Box, Custom, etc.

Step 4 In the Style list box, select the style of the border line, such as the double line, the dotted line, etc.

Step 5 In the Color drop-down list, select the color of the border line.

Step 6 In the Width drop-down list, select the width of the border line.

Step 7 In the Apply to drop-down list, select the application scope of the text border.

Step 8 The potential changes you have made will be displayed in the Preview section.

Step 9 When satisfied, click the OK button to complete the operation.

Add shading to text

You can add shading to the text by the Borders and Shading dialogue box:

Step 1 Select the text to which you want to add the shading.

Step 2 Open the Page Layout tab, click the Page Borders icon, and open the Borders and Shading dialogue box. Select the Shading tab as shown below:

Step 3 In the Fill select, select the preferred fill color for the shading.

Step 4 In addition to adding color shading to the text, you can also add a shading style and corresponding color to the text in the Patterns section. Select the preferred style and color in the Style and Color drop-down list for the shading.

Step 5 Set the application scope in the Apply to drop-down list.

Step 6 The potential changes you have made will be displayed in the Preview section.

Step 7 When satisfied, click the OK button to complete the operation.
